Right then, bug went straight through the MOT today, Cheers George.

But will need some new tyres soonish, just had a quick search on tinternet for some Firestones 155 R15 82T's and can't find any. Want to stick with Firestones as they last well and suit VW's.

Would prefer to go a bit wider than 155, but what would be ok width wise for a standard height bug on 4.5J steels. Don't want any of that rubbing malarky.

Where do you all get yours from?

Cheers

I spoke to a couple of you at the meet about the handling of my bug in windy weather, and said how it likes to wander across the road.

Just been under the bug for the first time this year and the steering damper is covered in fluid, would this be a cause??

Also notices all the rubber aren't looking too healthy.

Will have to get these jobs done, but will they improve the handling a lot?

Got to sort the shock absorders too as theres a lot of bounce in the front end.

bit o' help, if you don't mind chaps.

came home from bvf at the weekend, and the engine in the bus was driving fine, nice and smooth etc, but it was getting bloody hot, and its started 'running on' when i turn the ignition off.

I checked the timing and it was at 10deg. so i retarded it back a touch to 7.5deg.

its still drives nice, no pinking or flat spots, .... but is still 'running on'.

only difference i can tell is its now running a bit cooler.

how do i stop it from running on ??

But one of the valve springs has broken (... actually shattered, would be a better description!)

So i send the guy who built the engine an email with a couple of photos, and he asks me if i've added 1.25 ratio rockers and swivel feet adjusters,

(... errr no !! I don't even know what the fuck those are ) because he reckons it looks like i've got 'coil bind'

So here's ...

Hi guys, i'm after a bit of advice.

where does everyone go for their MOT's and service and repairs etc.??

looking for somewhere that's a bit more understanding and sympathetic about the old beetles and buses.

I'm still learning to do bits an pieces myself, but want to find a garage that'll do all those bits that i can't do (or don't have the skills and knowledge to do!) and do a decent job, and carry out welding, servicing etc, for a novice like me, without ripping me off.

any advice ...
