hi guys just brought my first bug it has an oil leak wondered if any one could help with a quick look for advise or any numbers for anyone who could help. i think the leak is from the head so i pressume the engine needs to come out so if its expensive woul it be cheaper to get new engine. have been to a couple of meetings with you guys at house in the tree please help thanks

when you say the "head" i presume you mean where the rocker box cover sits if so could be the gasket which sits between the cover and head. plus if it is this its NOT an engine out job

Regarding the engine it will more than likley be as spellbound says,head gaskets.
Piece of piss to replace,just pop off the spring clip on the heads,replace gasket and spring the clip back on.
Even if its leaking from any oil seals it wont be too bad,certainly not a new engine anyhow.
flywheel oil seal is a common one but thats more towards the gearbox end.
The other possible place would be push rod tube seals,which is between the head and the engine block.
That means heads off to replace seals,still nothing too drastic but a bit more work.
If you do need help im more than willing to help/have a look

They're never called head gaskets,they are rocker cover gaskets

ive posted in a tech forum and been right
anybody else need to know anything, im the man

ye rocker cover gaskets or maybe the push rod tubes . bit of a pain be not to hard

ive got a bit of a weepy pushrod tube. but im told there is a cure

It's not leaking, it's marking it's terratory (spelling?).
If it don't leak you haven't got any oil in it
One of my push rod tude is leaking too, got all the stuff to sort it (apart from a clue where to start )

i just cant be arsed at the moment, been working on it for ages so will have a go in a couple of weeks when its getting cold and damp. and then decide to do it when the weather warms up next year
