1 Leisure Battery Split Charge System on 26/9/2011, 6:14 pm

Stereophoney

Anyone know how these work or have a wiring diagram for one ?

I've got a leisure battery in my van but i'm not sure it's all working properly sad

I've a dash switch which the previous owner told me did nothing, on further inspection it operates the solenoid that both batteries are connected to :fight:

But no matter what position it's in the 2nd fusebox draws voltage from the main battery confused

when i fitted my 2 leisure batteries,i bought an intelligent relay off ebay.
It doesnt need to be connected to the alternator at all.
You take a fairly heavy duty cable from your main battery (starter battery, put an inline fuse in it for safety)to the relay, the second connection is for a earth cable and the third then takes a cable to your leisure battery..simples wink
It works on sensing when your ignition is switched on and will charge both batteries but only uses the leisure battery when the ignition is switched off Very Happy
I bought this one because i needed a big ampage to run my hydraulics but there are cheaper ones on ebay, just depends on what sort of stuff you'll be using

I've got a split charge relay which I found on ebay for a fiver. So far it's fucked up 1 leisure battery and one normal battery.... maybe I wired it up wrong confused

Dickie, do you remember the basic wiring for your relay? we were trying to fit Toby's at the weekend (similar to yours) but the instructions are gash Rolling Eyes

yes mate,well almost wink
2 main connections on the relay (the bigger terminal sizes) went to main battery and leisure battery and the smaller terminal was just for a body earth.
Not sure which big terminals went to which battery but that was all that needed wiring Very Happy Very Happy

Great thanks mate! smile

The box has 11 terminals but we could only figure out the two battery connections and the earth as you describe... I was thinking we were missing something but it sounds like it's all ok with just the 3 connections if that's what you have Very Happy

I've got a basic diagram if anyone wants it, won't let me upload it here sadly sad

Here ya go, where there's a will there's a way wink

I've drawn it myself after working out what's on my van, mine differs slightly as mine manually switches the leisure battery in or out smile
